S2E11 | Love is a Drug

This week I have a conversation with my friend who shares some of the lessons he thought he learned, but ended up repeated in later relationships. I think a lot of us are familiar with rushing into a relationship, being overcome with the rush of emotion that comes with falling for someone, and not necessarily learning our lesson the first time around, so I’m sure you’ll be able to relate to some, if not all, of Justin’s experience.

Justin mentions a few tools he’s learned through couples counseling that I know I want to use in my love life going forward. I’ll link to the references in the show notes so you can get the wisdom as well.

More information about some of the tools we talk about on this episode can be found below.

S2E10 | Dating Diary #1

This week I have something a little different for y’all. I’ve turned the mic on myself and shared about a recent experience I had that allowed me to see the power I hold when it comes to dating and dealing with potential romantic partners and it provided me the opportunity to practice exercising that power.

I’m hoping to do more of these dating diaries as I continue to live, learn, love, and grow so I can share my lessons and perspective with you so that hopefully you feel less alone in what you’re going through or what you’ve gone through and potentially help you avoid the pitfalls of situationships.

Enjoy!

On this episode, Alishia shares about her most recent situationship. Against, her better judgement, Alishia got involved with a charming, ambitious 24 year old -- 6 years her junior. She talks about the red flags that she saw, but chose to overlook, as the situationship developed.

Alishia also drops some gems with her ‘3 E’s to Boundary Setting’. It’s genius, y’all.

We also reference Myleik several times… and if you know Myleik, you know it was real wisdom we were commenting on.

We finish the episode with Alishia sharing an EPIC petty moment in the ‘Do Better Corner’.

This is part 2 of the Millennial Dating Series. On this episode we hear from Akil, a chemist and teacher out of Minneapolis. Akil shares some really thoughtful perspectives on dating and relationships for black millennials. And considering I’ve known Akil for almost 8 years and have seen his tomfoolery over that almost decade, his perspective really has come from a lot of maturing, learning from others, and self reflection. I really think you’ll enjoy this interview.

Enjoy!

Today I’m bringing you part 1 of the Millennial Dating Series. I interviewed young black professionals to get their take on aspects of modern dating. I ask them about their perspective on things like ghosting, paying for dates, using dating apps, and the joys and challenges of modern day dating.

On this episode we hear from Justin Casselle, the Director of ‘The Right Swipe’ a dope new web series created by and starring Kyra Jones and Juli Del Prete. ‘The Right Swipe’ puts a modern spin on the traditional rom-com by highlighting the dating experiences of individuals from marginalized communities.

The episode starts off with what you can expect to see from The Right Swipe then we dive into questions about dating apps, rebound dating, paying for dates, and so much more and Justin shares his personal insights and experience dating as a black millennial in Chicago.

I’m excited to bring you an episode with CEO, screenwriter, public speaker, and bestselling and award-nominated author, Phoenix Williams. You may be familiar with her erotic romance series, Sex, Lies, and Friendship, or her paranormal series, Queens of Beasts. Phoenix credits her success to standing in her truth, obsessing over anime, owning who she is, and giving her fears the bird. In her own words, she writes books and talks shit -- which you know I love and had to have her on the show.

On this episode Phoenix shares a story from her early twenties when she was dating someone seriously and found out in the worst way possible that he had moved on.

Phoenix drops allll the gems on this episode and share her unabashed truth that got her to the place of growth and maturity that she’s in now.
